You’ve reached Exeter University Speleological Society, more commonly known as Exeter Caving Club!

We’re a friendly bunch who just like to explore, be that exploring the limit of fun that a person can safely sustain at our weekly socials, or exploring deep untouched caves across the world.

As a University caving club we’re aimed at novices, so you don’t need to have any kit or experience to join us. Our membership fees are very low (£35 as of 2018) so that shouldn’t stop you, and we even subsidise all of our trips (a weekend away to Wales/Yorkshire/Mendip costs between £15 and £30). So come along and meet us, and I hope we can show you why we love what we do 🙂

  1. Hello, I am completely new to caving, I’ve been on a few trips but only as part of scouts or school. I found your page on the new to caving website and was trying to find a way to find an instructor. I’m based in Kingsteignton so was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Devon Tucker,
I’d recommend Simon Mullens, who’s a caving instructor based in Exeter (http://iscaoutdoor.co.uk/caving/), but he, like most instructors, will usually be taking groups caving rather than individuals. If you want to get into caving a bit more then I’d recommend joining a local club and going out and about with them – they’ll often have some kit that you can borrow until you can accrue your own and they’re a good social group too. Your local club would probably be the Devon Speleological Society (http://www.devonss.org.uk/) who are based in Buckfastleigh.
      Hope that’s helpful,
Let us know if you need any more help!
      Ari
